Chandeliers are best suited to entry ways and your living room. You can install a chandelier in your kitchen but I think mini pendants or tiffany lamps work better for that type of situation. Remember, a chandelier is designed for tasking lighting, it is designed more for visual appeal and ambience.
- like with any interior designing you do, a chandelier should flow with the rest of the light sources in the space. Not should it mesh with the style of the room, it needs to compliment your furniture, rugs, floor, wall coverings, etc.
- when you find a chandelier remember that you should install it about 30" inches above the dining table.
- for the entry way be sure to install it at least 7 feet from the floor
- to creat ambience and a nice relaxed mood you might want to consider adding a dimmer switch to your chandelier. The great thin about a dimmer is that you can adjust it to your mood or requirements, and they arelitavely cheap at about $25 - $30.
- as with any designing you do, it should match, don't purchase a victorian chandelier for a casual, relaxed room, or the chandelier will look too formal.
Chandeliers come in many more styles than Schonbek crystal. Other styles include, rustic, tiffany, traditional, victorian and contemporary. You should also be aware of the designer brands available. Names include, Kichler, Sea Gull, Minka-Lavery, Quoizel, and Murray Feiss.
