Everyone likes to feel as secure from unwanted intruders as possible, and with good security lighting you can do that easily and relatively inexpensively. There are several types of security lights available for your outdoor use and in the yard or garden. Motion-detector lighting is definitely the lighting which would be the most useful say, in the garage or out at the pool area, but for general lighting to deter intruders, a low watt dusk to dawn, or timed lighting would be better. With motion detection, the human being has to actually cross the boundaries of your property and interrupt the space around the light before it activates. With the dusk to dawn, the area with the lighting would remain lit through the dark hours, until morning. The would-be intruder is deterred from the start, as soon as he sees no shadows to hide in.
You might be thinking to yourself that this will raise the electric bill, but not with the low wattage. This type of exterior security lighting runs very efficiently with a low energy drain.
- They illuminate only in the motion boundary.
- They emit a harsh, intrusive and environmentally unfriendly light that is often a serious nuisance to neighbors.
- Instantly switch on a powerful white light, resulting in a ‘flash factor' that disturbs rather than aids vision. When located near roads, this can be dangerous. Often activates in misfires.
- They are extremely energy inefficient.
- Require regular bulb replacements.
- Are easily interfered with unless installed at the recommended height of more than 10'.
- Can be very dangerous if the owners go to investigate why the light activated and on the other side; few will check why a light has activated, like the car alarm.
The alternative is to use high efficiency low energy lighting that is photo-sensitive. It remains activated for the entire night, or on dark days, and stops would-be invaders by keeping your property well lit for neighbors and police to easily see if there's a problem. Security lighting is for your safety.
