The year was 1979, and the place was Atlanta, Georgia. Two colleagues, Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank, changed the home improvement industry in the USA when they opened their first ever The Home Depot Store on June 22nd. The first stores they opened were attached to Treasure Island stores, but expanded within the first five years to become independent, and tackled five states. Currently there are more than two thousand stores in the states, and a new store opens approximately every 48 hours.
